Sleep With Your Boots On

Every night before I go to sleep, I check in on the kids. Mostly it’s just to make sure that they’re still breathing, that they’re not feverish, and that they’re covered up. Sometimes Ryan will be laying on his arm, and sometimes Alyssa will have decided that her pillow (and blankets, and stuffed animals) are better off on the rocking chair.

Last night, everything seemed to be in order until I patted Alyssa on her back. I missed and wound up patting a large toy that had been in Justin’s room when the three of them went to sleep. Justin’s door was open; Alyssa had gotten out of bed, snuck into Justin’s room, picked a toy that she liked, and smuggled it back into her room.

Cowboys sleep with their boots on so that they’re ready for anything. Alyssa sleeps with toys so that she’s ready to play when she wakes up.
